January 13th, 2006 Tony No comments

I get a lot of comment spam in this blog on a daily basis but its nearly always for adsense scraper sites, porn, pills, or poker. Well the link spam world is finally welcoming religious fanatics. I logged in to find 10 comment spam from this idiot:

New to the game he didn’t post his spam through a proxy. Heh.

Google in Raleigh speculation seems unlikely now

January 9th, 2006 Tony No comments

The speculation that Google had visited the Raleigh/Triangle area in a possible move to open a location in the area was recently followed up by Andy discovering that Google had held a recruiting session with computer science students at NCSU.

An inquiry over at The Wolf Web suggests that Google was only here to recruit new grads for existing locations outside of NC.

Are wholesale clubs like CostCo and Sams Club worth the money?

January 7th, 2006 Tony 24 comments

costco
I was a Sam’s Club member for several years. I always felt like I was getting a deal but there are always the naysayers that claim that the deals are sporadic and you often get screwed. Today I joined CostCo not because I think its better than Sams. Actually they feel identical to me except for the fact that the CostCo checkout line seemed to move faster. I joined CostCo because my wife and I recently moved to Chapel Hill and CostCo was much closer. I spent a total of $606.48 today not including my CostCo membership of which I paid $45. $310.29 of my purchase was business (a fireproof safe for my office).

I decided to figure out how much money I saved by shopping at the wholesale club. I accomplished this by comparing prices with those listed online for my local Harris Teeter that I regularly shop at.

The bottom line was far better than I ever imagined. The only item that wasn’t a bargain was the laundry detergent.

Titanium Thinkpad from Lenova

January 5th, 2006 Tony 7 comments

Finally a non-mac laptop that I can kind of get excited about. I was just researching for a new laptop to replace my Dell D800. I would really love to go for a titanium Powerbook but I just have too many little scripts and apps that are crucial to my business that can only run on Windows. This is old news but Lenova has released a titanium Thinkpad thats pretty hot looking. I only considered moving away from Dell because of all the praise I’ve heard from friends that are running on the Thinkpad. I do wish they had taken a queue and really made this thing slick by mounting titanium all over the body. Hey Lenova! I don’t want to see any black!

BigDaddy Datacenter rocks my world

January 5th, 2006 Tony No comments

Seems a lot of people are scared of BigDaddy but I’m liking the looks of it all around. Heads up: 64.233.179.104 is no good anymore. Go for 66.249.93.104 instead.
